DOJO Jazz
Orchestra
Tuesday, April 29th
Doors open at 7 pm, show starts at 8 pm.
The DiMartino/Osland Jazz Orchestra (OEDOJO¹ for short) has been delighting audiences all across the Bluegrass and the Midwest for over a decade. The aggregation is directed by virtuoso trumpeter Vince DiMartino (Distinguished Professor of Trumpet at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky) and high-energy saxophonist Miles Osland (Director of Jazz Studies and Professor of Saxophone at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY).
The members of the orchestra consist of some of the finest professors and
freelance musicians from Central Kentucky. Their latest recording titled Off the Charts has garnered considerable radio play on jazz stations across the country. The CD has also won critical praise with one reviewer stating:
"This album is a sterling example of how the big band can fit well into the
contemporary jazz scene without losing any of the unique sound that
continues to send tingles up and down the spines listeners -- whether the
band is tooting a barnburner or caressing a ballad". and from another:
[DOJO¹s Off the Charts] "swings furiously!" -- Highly recommended
The April 29th Comedy Caravan performance will be DOJO's CD release partyfor the Louisville area. Their new CD "Quotient" is already garnering
critical praise!
